Non-Toxic & Low-VOC Timber Floor Finishes Brisbane

Timber floors take a beating from daily life — kids, pets, furniture, foot traffic. We offer two levels of safer finish: Low-VOC water-based polyurethane as our standard recommendation, and genuinely Non-Toxic coatings for the most sensitive homes — both without compromising on durability, so your home stays liveable during the job and beautiful long after it's done. What "Non-Toxic" Actually Means (And What It Doesn't)

Non-toxic' and 'low-VOC' get used loosely across the industry, so here's the breakdown of exactly what they mean for your floors. Traditional solvent-based polyurethanes release strong fumes and high levels of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) for days or even weeks after coating. Low-VOC water-based polyurethane dramatically reduces those fumes and chemicals — it's our standard recommendation and a huge step up for any household. Genuinely non-toxic finishes go further again: coating systems formulated without the harmful compounds, ideal for the most sensitive situations. When you get a quote, we'll explain exactly which system suits your home and why, in plain terms

Who Chooses Non-Toxic Finishes?

  • Families with babies and young children — little ones spend their first years at floor level, breathing the air right where fumes settle. Parents choose non-toxic to cut that exposure.

  • Pet owners — dogs and cats live nose-down on your floors every day. A low-fume finish means less for them to breathe in.

  • Anyone with asthma, allergies or chemical sensitivities — standard coating fumes can be genuinely unpleasant or worse. Non-toxic finishes are the safer choice.

  • Households staying in the home during the work — lower odour means less disruption and a faster return to normal life.

Gentler Doesn't Mean Soft

Non-toxic finishes are smart — safer air for your family and pets. Low-VOC matters too — less smell, faster to live back in your home. The systems we use, Bona, Berger Seidle, Loba and Berger Seidle, give you both without sacrificing durability. Pick your sheen, matte through gloss, and you get a floor that holds up to real life: kids, pets, Brisbane heat, the lot.

How It Works

Every non-toxic job follows the same careful process as all our work: sanding back to bare timber with Festool dust extraction, any repairs and gap filling, then your chosen finish applied in multiple coats. We'll advise honestly on drying and cure times for your specific system, and when it's okay for feet, furniture and paws to return.
